"It's not just a MultiColor Manicure"

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer and was told I was going to need chemotherapy treatments, my initial thought was one of fear, gloom, and doom.  Everything I had heard, and seen, over the years with family, friends, or patients was nausea, vomiting, fatigue, hair loss, sores, and loss of control regarding how you are going to feel throughout the experience.

Well…although I had no idea what I was in for, nor how I was going to react to it all, I decided to take my own control and have my weekly manicure take on a whole different look. I asked my long time manicurist to paint each one of my nails on my right hand a different color and mirror the left hand with the same colors.  The reason was that at least an array of tastefully selected colors would be uplifting for me and at a time when I may not feel like it, they would make me smile.

As I enjoyed the uplift, I found that all of the other patients who were having chemotherapy with me… people with a lot of money and a lot of notoriety… it didn’t matter because we were all there for the same reason.  We were all getting the infusion of poison… the stuff that was not only killing the bad cells, it was also killing many good cells… a classic "catch-22"… but what choice did we have? We had no control over what was happening to us.  So… my nails were bringing them cheer and smiles.  How simple… how effective!

I came to love my nails so much that I have kept my repertoire for 10 years since my chemotherapy.  Each week the colors change… spring, summer, fall, and winter palates.  I am having a blast with it. I call it my “classy chaos.”   It is neat… and symmetrical.  If I may say so… it is awesome!   People love it.  I love it.  It still makes me smile.

As time has passed, I have come to realize that each hand with 5 fingers of a different color… they represent 5 facets of my life.  They are… Meryl the person; the surgical nurse; the breast cancer survivor; the personal trainer and cancer exercise specialist; and the inventor / entrepreneur.

Be daring, try it!  You might like how it looks and best of all, how it makes you smile.

There are lots of colors you can use, check them out...
